January 24, 20253 Days Chimpanzee Safari
The 3 days chimpanzee safari at Ngamba Island will take you to the home of 52 chimpanzees, coupled with boat rides on Lake Victoria, community interactions, and a lifetime behind the scenes experienceoft Ngamba Island.
Day 1: Arrival & Exploration
Morning: Departure to Ngamba Island via speedboat at either 9:00 am, 12:45 pm, or 5:00 pm. Depending on your departure time, you’ll arrange your pick-up or the team can assist (extra cost may apply).
The island is 23 km from Entebbe, taking about 45 minutes. Along the way, you’ll cross the Ugandan Equator on Lake Victoria, with a stop for photos and optional swimming. Upon reaching the island, meet the staff who will take you through the itinerary of the 3-day chimpanzee safari. Watch chimpanzees eating, playing, and preparing their nests from an elevated platform. Later enjoy a sunset cruise with drinks, watching fishermen, fishing towns, and the beautiful sunset over the lake.
Overnight stay at Ngamba Ecolodge, featuring East African-style architecture, solar lighting, and a view of Lake Victoria.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Activities & Exploration
Start with a cup of coffee or tea, then join your guide for a 15-30 minute activity observing how chimpanzees start their day (waking up and eating breakfast). Return for breakfast, then prepare for the next adventure. Take a boat to another island for a nature walk, birdwatching, and panoramic views of Ngamba Island.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch after returning from the boat ride and later on a chimpanzee tracking activity near the shores of Lake Victoria. Accompanied by a guide and wildlife expert, you’ll head out on a boat, observing and interpreting chimpanzee calls as you approach their habitat. See over 20 chimpanzees as they interact and catch food.
Day 3: Reflection & Departure
Morning: Enjoy breakfast and a relaxing time exploring the island, or unwind on the balcony/terrace of Ngamba Ecolodge. The boat departs, and your safari concludes as you head back to the mainland.
